She howled long and soft, but this time with happiness, not lonliness. The undulating call mingled with that of Scamp's, and the melody was beautiful.

First he's there, now he's not! The white wolf sat down on her haunches. Suddenly an idea struck her and she pounced on the area she assumed Shroud was.

Pouncing after Shroud, She tried to imitate him and catch him at the same. She ended up with a faceful of snow. Phuutt! The white wolf shook her face, yipping. She chased after Shroud - except now it was hard to see her!

A large bear enters -- BEAR, 19:51:50 11/08/01 Thu

He shuffles in, sniffing the ground. Looking up, he grunts with surprise at seeing the wolves. Aggressively, he stands up and roars angrily, his back fur bristling. Spit flecks his mouth and his dark eyes narrow dangerously. He is seven feet tall, with pounds of muscles clinging to his huge figure. He dares the wolves to come at him.

Luckily, she was upwind of the bear, so it could not smell her very well. She hoped this bear had poor eyesight like most.

She jumped up at the bear's back, slashing with her claws and occasionally a tooth, then she darted back upwind.

A thin silver wolf carefully pads up, her belly barely brshing the ground beneathe her. -- Faerydust, 15:02:55 11/28/01 Wed

Faerydust clings to ground, careful not to be too conspicuous. She is on strange territory and wants to be sure she is not attacked. She lifts her head and sniffs the air, checking for danger. Her icy blue eyes scan the terrain and watch the other wolves warily.

Risea sniffed the breeze. She smelled blood and the scent of an unknown wolf. -- Risea, 12:54:30 11/29/01 Thu

The female wolf yipped softly. They had no alpha to speak to the new wolf, and Ferntread was busy battling the bear. She decided to help. Pounding up to the vicious pair, she tore at the bear's neck with her sharp canines, making sure she drew blood. She ripped stronger, as the smell of blood engulfed her. Growling with anticipation, she forgot about the strange wolf and concentrated on the most important thing at the moment: the foe in front of her.

The sight of the new wolf and the scent of his own blood discouraged him. With a savage growl, he gave Ferntread one last bite to the shoulder and slapped Risea in the face, then loped away in retreat.

She lay exhausted, panting heavily. Her wounds weren't serious, but they hurt. Ferntread lifted her head to see if Risea was okay. She spotted the new wolf and pricked her ears forward, interested yet cautious.

Risea snuffled Ferntread's ear and ran about 50 feet from her. -- Risea, 18:07:14 12/03/01 Mon

She quickly marked her territory, knowing that the new wolf would read the embedded message: The pack consisted of only she and Ferntread and few other wolves, roughly, they had no alpha, and they needed more wolves in the pack. She was welcome to join them. Risea trotted back to Ferntread and resumed licking. She wasn't exactly sure how the two of them would hunt, Ferntread with her injuries, minor though they may be.

She'd of marked her territory, but she happened to be busy, so she continued licking. She waited for the new strange wolf to do something.

She stood slightly taller and trotted up to Risea and Ferntread. She swished her tail across the ground. Sitting down, Faerydust glanced from wolf to wolf, wondering how she would like it here and how they managed to get along without an alpha.

The copper wolf actually sees Risea as more dominant than herself. She gently licks Faerydust's snout to show kindness and welcoming.

She sat back on her haunches and decided to think a moment about the positions in the pack. Three female wolves. They needed alphas and a beta. Well, she wasn't going to miss all the fun for thinking. She yipped and sped after Faerydust, showering snow everywhere.

Stormhawke was trying to get Ferntread's attention, but she was busy with yet another wolf, and Faerydust was in the snow. She decided to play with her, as she was not busy otherwise. She galloped up in full speed, but managed not to crash. Excited, she began kneading at Faerydust with her forepaws.

She saw that there were four females in the pack so far, and one male. RIsea was the most dominant one so far, but she was fearful of the male. She had been ill-used in her old pack, and she didn't want to cause anyone any anger. So far, three wolves, two males and a female, had not returned. The less wolves there were, the less competition there was for Risea.

Stormhawke runs over to Ferntread -- Stormhawke, 23:47:23 12/08/01 Sat

He took her ear into his jaws and wagged his tail uncertaintly. He released her after a moment and watched her carefully. Then he began urinating on a few nearby bushes, glancing repeatedly at her.

She eyed Stormhawke nervously, her ears pressed flat to her skull. She wagged her tail weakly. The wolf was aware that this male was bigger and stronger than she was, and she didn't want to cause him and anger.

Then suddenly� she stopped. Treading over to Ferntread, she nosed her gently in the side. Leading her over to Scamps�she ripped off a leaf of a nearby plant with her teeth.
Holding the herb gently to Ferntread, her eyes were full of friendship and trust. She asked in a low growl if Ferntread wanted to join her and Scamps.

She swished her tail, gently taking Ferntread's muzzle in her jaws and pushing her into the position she wanted her: next to Scamps. She then settled down next to the other females, Ferntread in the middle. The white wolf asked her companions in a series of little yaps, barks, and whines if they were not a trio of friends that would grow to be unseperable.

When that didn't work, the wolf stuck out a front leg and tapped her playmate on the muzzle. She then tried to turn her head to nip Ferntread's ear.

bic: Ferntread looked around the clearing with satisfaction. Yet another wolf! Now, there was herself, Risea, Stormhawke, Faerydust, Oceanshore, AND Saketip. The pack was growing in numbers.
Ferntread grins at Saketip, wagging her tail.
