Thick hair -- Hair is Stylin'

I have really thick hair, and i Hate pulling it back in ponytails. I am 14 and i will be in High school soon and want to wear my hair down a lot but since it is so thick, and i do not want to put heat on it i cannot do any thing with it. My mom says that i need to wear my hair coiming towards my face because the way my head is shape like a oval. Could you tell me what products to buy for my hair?

PLEASE HELP ME.
