It's not unusual for parents to dictate the length or style of a growing child or teens hair. They have their reasons and sometimes can be quite stubborn about personal likes and dislikes. I always respect the wishes of the parents, but make I like to make certain that they realize all of childs likes, dislikes and options too. The best tool for deciding how a haircut is to look is to have you both go through the style books and decide together. This can even mean doing it privately or separately and then comparing results to avoid the instant show-down! This can work wonderfully when trying to convince one or the other about what works and doesn't work with a particular face shape or texture especially when the stylist is there to referee the critique. What is usually in order is a compromise of some sort. Say for example mom likes bangs and the daughter abhores them... A long side swept fringe of thinned bangs might be a better alternative to the traditional one length (chopped straight across) variet. Adding layers is a good compromise for a daughter who wants to have short hair, but dad won't hear of it. In any case a good stylist should be able to help you communicate with your parents. Keep in mind one more thing... generally, parents don't want their daughters to look unpopular or out-of-style even if they do have very opinions of hairstyles for them!
