In reply to: Amme 's message, "Help! I have really thick, wavy hair!" on 09/18/02 3:28am

Thick and wavy hair can be some of the most unrully hair that I've ever worked with long. The bulk alone can leave it feeling wild and unkempt and high maintenance. Thick and wavy hair can be marvoulous with extra length (to the brastarp) as the additional weight can help pull it out. Thick and wavy also respond wonderfully to shorter cuts and especially the new razored crops. My guess is that you've never had a good short style or experienced a stylist who had a real talent for short hair. Other wise I'm certain I could make you happy...

Remember that your face shape is only a starting point for a hair style. What I look for first is your over all proportions to bone and frame. Other charatcteristics that give me the green light to go with client short and chic... , smallish to petite facial features, eye, lips, nose in good proportion. Generally speaking oval, square, and diamond faces are taylor made for showing off pretty eyes, neck, ears as well. But I've seen short hair work equally well with almost any face shape. This includes long and round faces.

However, let's focus on round. Think of your face as a picture and the hair around it as a frame... If we remove a bulky overpowering hairstyle from behind your face fraing sillouette we often give the appearence of less roundness because there is little to contrast the contours of your face against once we remove this "back drop".

Your round face and short hairstyle can be taylored with face framing details that actually flatter a round face better than long hair.

You will want to find a good hair designer that specializes in short cuts. A fun site to take some styling cues from is wwww.cropsforgirls.com

If you need more help and pictures of suitable styles, email me a picture for a no obligation professional assesment of your face shape and features and some style recommendations.

See my rules "It all starts here" (in the archives) for finding getting a good consultation, then get a haircut you'll love.
Luvs,
