I have the same hair type as your daughter, so I know the feeling. Layers in the very front are great, they add body and dimension and make styling easier. Try twisting her hair at the base of her neck, flip it up and attach with a french twist comb (or bobby pins), then bobby pin the loose curls at the top into place. Also, simply creating a basic ponytail at the middle of the back of the head and bobby pinning the curls into a 'curly bun' with a few loose pieces in front looks great, I always get lots of complements for that one!
