The first half or so were good, then somewhere allong the series he dumbed it down because the main audiance for it was kids/teens... Anyway in one of the novels it was explained what Xanth was... Basically like a giant fish tank for a Demon to look at when he was bored! Xanth was somewhere around five hundred miles in diameter with lots of people, sentiant(weird weird) supernatural creatures and regular natural stuff... Could be this entire universe was created by a bored god, wouldn't know if any god(s) pay attention to humans or anything else in this universe. Aliens with human pets? Ummmm....slaves are very different than pets even though both are property. Slaves? If the aliens are high tech they would not need slaves, however there are cultural/psychological reasons for slavery;domination, no civil rights in the labor force, labor is food also as with humans and their cows... Human pets? Could be, could happen. Humans are insicure, immature, need approval, need shelter and protection becuase of weak soft skin and no claws...
