Influence=Power? Technically no in terms of phycics, however yes for political/social situations. Think of WHY companies spend billions on advertising?...influence the consumer. Propeganda=influence. Religious preaching=influence. ALL inventions of humans help us "influence" reality easier than simply using our hands and perception. Simple invention; a club wich can be made from a tree branch, it provides a longer lever arm(teeter totter concept) so you can hit an enemy with MUCH more force for the same effort. That is the purpose of tools; make a given process more efficiant and easier. Maby people invent stuff to make money, but they will not make money unless their invention has a usefull/entertaining aspect. Gravity does not "dictate the rest of the universe" gravity is "dominant" over large distances, IE it is the main force holding galaxies together. Without gravity the universe would fail to exist? False. If gravity disapeared it would be very catastrophic; all life on Earth would die within a few hours, all humans within minutes. The universe would still exist though. Explanation of what would happen if gravity disapeared. Earth is about 8000 miles in diameter. Pi is aprox 3.14 Circumfrance is pi*diameter, so earths circumfrance is around 25000 miles. 24 hour day, each point on the surface of Earth is movin at about a thousand miles an hour around the center of Earth. So imagine tying a string to a rock and rotating it as fast as you can. Then cut the string. This is an analogy to gravity; cutting the string is equivilant to gravity disapearing. Summary; if gravity disappeared everthing on Earth would continue in motion from inertia at 1000 miles per hour out into space and most of Earth would fall appart from the same inertia and become lots of space debree.
