I am puzzled. The coaching staff seems behind him, so they must see in post game analysis that he made the right defensive call but the execution didn't go right due to youth. But I am more concerned that the defense seems to come out (last season and this pre-season) flat-footed and vulnerable at the beginning of the game. More importantly, they seem particularly vulnerable on 3rd and long!! I can't believe the number of times teams are able to convert on the 9ers on downs like "3rd and 12." I would love to see a stat comparing the 9ers defense on 3rd down versus other teams.
