400,000 turn out for Sydney Mardi Gras

Some 400,000 people turned out Saturday for the parade marking the launch of the 24th annual Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, which is billed as the world�s largest gay event. The lead float of the parade carried a dozen pink flamingos holding babies in their beaks, to mark the upsurge in gay parenting. Moses Tau, a singer from Papua New Guinea known as the �Pacific Queen,� participated in the parade. Also joining in the event were singer Sheena Easton and actor Billy Connolly (Mrs. Brown), who posed with a drag queen made up as Anna Nicole Smith.
