"Our Children’s Deadly Game"

Description: A poem about (Prostitution & Aids in Thailand)

We are Thai People
Some of us we are poor
We have Beautiful Sons & Daughters
Of, who we adore
They are proud to be our children
to their very core.

They are so dutiful to us each & every day.
That they would rather sell their bodies
than see their families wither & die.

Some of our children they are but innocents in this deadly game.

They know, not yet the shame it will bring to their great county’s name.

Nor of the faceless men who could bring them AIDS

Yet for our families sake.
This journey of chance they must take.
To help feed their families & survive each day.
Hoping that they can stay healthy & safe.
So that one-day they can make their families
proud that they had a child that could help them out.

For this is not their chosen way of life.
But forced on them by their plight &
the foreign men of shame
who only think of them this way.

This is not the worst of it yet
For our own lives and the
gamble of AIDS this is but a hellish bet.

But what of your legacy you left behind.
Our unborn who we hold dear inside
Their lives ruined before they can even cry.

If they survive for us to hold them once
Their smiles of innocent hope is lost
inside her mother’s tears as it watches her cry.

Some mothers cannot hold more than one dark Cloak
And their babies they must leave just to survive
even on tears as they chock.

The thought of babies been cast aside somehow leaves me cold inside

All because of their plight and of
a child they bought up to be so proud inside.
And of the men who came and didn’t care
Of what their actions, precious life would claim.

So this is the sadness of prostitution and AIDS in
our beautiful country on this day.
I still hope that you will come, but only in friendship
and not to play this deadly game.

There are many good people in The Land of smiles.
This is not the land of shame.

This is The Land of Smiles, sunshine, friendship & dreams.
And we hope a memory to make you glad you came &
Hope to see you again.
