Captain, where are you? *she says mournfully.* Where could you-- *She suddenly freezes, raising her elegant head, her nostrils dilating eagerly--could that be his scent on the breeze? But no, she realizes sadly, it's only the returning Masked.* Oh honey, oh my dear Captain, I need you so badly . . . *she whispers, her voice cracking with tears. She sinks down, her gleaming knees knuckled against the sweet damp earth, as crystalline tears splash onto a flat rock studded with chips of mica that sparkle in the late afternoon light. Her creamy mane shimmers as it slides over her satiny neck. She curls into as small a ball as she can, with her velvety nose buried in her creamy tail that still smells of him. Fresh tears come and her withers shake as she falls into mourning as un-welcome as a nightmare. For that was what life would be without him--a nightmare.*
