To clarify: some plaid can be worn by pretty much anyone. Head-to-toe plaid can be certainly be pulled off as well. What you've gotta be careful with is wearing a single overwhelming piece of the same plaid snugly covering your entire torso (case in point being the array of "punk" dresses sold by Lip Service). Loosely flowing pieces of contrasting plaid confuse the eye & keep it moving, whereas immobile, unchanging plaid is even worse than the dreaded Horizontal Stripes, creating the illusion of width.

I can't imagine you ever wearing one of the offending garments in question, so I think you're safe, my Inscrutable Plaid Woman. :}
