 Pale light of dawns first rays poored over the small valley with a steadyness of one very old, and very wise. The pregnant mare turned her head to the light and wuffled softly as the suns warmth passed over her chocolate covered face and warmed her ears. The older mare bent her head down to nibble at the sparse grass in the shallow sandy wallow she called Home. One small black ear was tipped, keeping careful motherly watch over the playful foal.

Art bounded about the small valley, kicking up his heels and dancing on the dew-kissed grass that turned to gold in the lights first rays. His sun-burst hide glimmered copper as he let lights faint touch caress his shoulder for a split second before dancing off into the shadows, playing a game with the coming dawn. His little tail twitched and swished, and he reared on not-yet powerful haunches, acting the stallion as his tiny whinny betrayed his age.

The young one turned with a snort, and sprinted off into the lower valler, towards others that stirred in the pre-dawn light.
