Youve got trouble, with this new guy.
Who one earth even thinks about giving the boss a message with "having a blast."
I am going to assume you do NOT know how to climb the corporate ladder, and i am going to assume this new guy DOES!
I would suggest picking up management books, or going to your local university and taking a few management class's or just talk to some Managment Professors, and they will tell you this guy is trying to make his way to being your boss.
I know people like that and they are so damn smooooooth, you have no idea how quick they rise to the top. I remember one women, good looking, in a year she got promoted twice using that type of tactic with her bosses.

Good luck, hope you dont lose your job because of this guy, because he'll be your boss and make life hell for you, to please his boss, or worse?
