Um....I think the vision that drove Drusilla was her saying, "I could. I could pick the wisest and bravest knight in all the land - and make him mine forever with a kiss."

And she spots Spike. She sees Spike as a Knight because she's insane. Dru and Darla, who are same vampires see Spike as the "the first drooling idiot that comes along."

So, if turning Spike was a mistake, than turning Xander would correct this the mistake by turning Xander if they're both "Knights?" Or maybe both, Spike would be the wisest and Xander would be the bravest?
