I think you might be onto something here, but I can't figure out what could possibly be bad enough to make Xander want to be a vampire, especially since he knows that he will lose control of himself. I'm wondering if its not an accidental thing. Perhaps he is wounded in battle and is turned by one of the vamps (Spike or possibly Dru)?

Just a thought.
