Just a thought relating this to WtP:

I don't know what 3Strikes has in mind, but WtP has said very specifically that the BIG DIFFERENCES between Spike and Angelus are going to be a major story arc in Season 7. To that extent, at least from WtP's point of view, this question almost has to be rephrased, because it lumps Spike and Angel(us) together as individuals that Xander could be like or unlike. Instead, maybe it should be asked which one of them he'd be like. Or else, whether he'd have some entirely third nature.

But as I say, that's WtP stuff -- don't know whether it fits in with 3Strikes' views.
