] Date Posted: 21:58:43 08/08/01 Wed Kwitcher Bitchin @ tippin! The trivial crap about unrequited service is boring. We should be more concerned about murder and how cab regulators use us to pump themselves up with us as fodder to demonstrate the need for their jobs. Maybe being an inner city driver, exclusively, for 31 years gives me a different perspective than many boonie drivers but... The regulators dance on the graves of slain cab drivers boasting that they are the solution to our problems, when, in fact they are largely THE problem. Other professionals self-regulate why can't we? Anyone with a few years in this business knows they get their jobs by promising to be junkyard dogs to us. Morb's last message (which included apologies for the difficulties of using free web servers exclusivity, I/we understand)... gave me the impression that this guy is trying to establish a forum more for our betterment rather than a place to gripe without offering ideas about how to better our lot in life. He is ON TARGET as far as I am concerned. Cops f*ck with us, Cab regulators f*ck with us, some passengers f*ck with us, the Media f*cks with us. When do we stand up for ourselves with a conciousness of the passengers perspective? They are the only allies we really need to recruit. Date Posted: 12:19:23 08/09/01 Thu The problem with many drivers that live in cities that have no formal taxi commission set up is that we ARE regulated by a government agency. In the form of motor carrier, Department of Motor Vehicles, or whoever or whatever they chose to name themselves. In larger cities, they of course have a taxi commision, for example New York, that has it's own type of police force. These people aren't brought into the business with experiance in the taxi industry normally. They are people who have applied for the job, or been appointed. In the case of the "boonie" areas, there is some government agency that regulates everything, the person/people are getting paid $50,000 dollars a year to make sure that WE are safe. This is completly illogical. You don't hire a plumber to be in charge of a hospital. You hire a surgeon, in the case of regulation, I agree with Midnight, hire cabdrivers to regulate cabdrivers. I agree with some of the laws that are out there, I don't agree with who imposes them. |
