Dear Jonathan,

I'm getting confused by this thread.

Probably my fault. I started badly -- couldn't find the word I was looking for to describe precisely the distinction I see
between subjectivity and relativity.

The distinction I see between the two that I am trying to describe is their referants.

Relativity refers to the capacity of the nature (or attribute) of a thing to be altered by virtue of the circumstances in
which the thing is perceived.

Subjectivity refers to the capacity of a perceiver to alter his perceptions by virtue of his varying state of mind.

Today I often her folks saying that subjectivity alters the truth -- or something else -- the validity of which is
anchored in an immutable nature (or immutable attribute). In essence these folks are saying subjectivity alters the
nature of the thing perceived -- which is one of the philosophical propositions of Relativism.

That error is what I was referring to when I wrote that relativity may end up commanding the field, undermining the
universality that makes subjectivity something different from objectivity.

I apologize for expressing myself so badly in the beginning that I was not understandable. That often happens
when I resort to a telegraphic style when trying to compress my thoughts. (The imbecility of that sort of telegraphic
style was noted by Joseph Conrad in The Heart of Darkness, but I too often disregard his excellent advice.)

Kindest Regards
