Yep, it's real. My forefathers have been screwed by the US govt since its inception. In fact I've got a bumpersticker somewhere that reads, "You can trust the government. Just ask any Native American."

Somewhere under that claim of "equality" and "freedom of oppression" minorities and immigrants get pushed aside with horrifying frequency.

No government is perfect. No place to live is perfect. The US is a pretty good place to live, but as with all mixed cultures there is racial bias and discrimination.

The same panic that caused gun bans after the attempted Reagan assassination has gripped the country again. This time it's because of 9/11. While yes, terrorism is a real threat to the nation, once again we see the same f'ed up logic in response.

sigh.

I'll climb off my soap box now and just wish you the best, dear. Maybe the next generation will show more common sense and more tolerance than this one and the prior one. I honestly hope so.
