I'm wiccan in that I have learned as a mature woman, mother & midwife, that the male-dominated idea of religion/government is oppressive to women -- very similar to the Taliban.
Extremism in any form is dangerous. Controlling women by controlling their development, education, ability to support themselves, decide to get pregnant or not, is control and manipulation.
I have disavowed the religion of my parents: Southern Baptist -- even it is based on the Roman idea of male-dominance, etc.
I embrace and practice wicce, as a wise-woman, a wife and mother, and now grand-mother. I celebrate life -- not the destruction of it, as male-dominated cultures do. I study the old religion, as it existed in europe before the romans "catholicized" religion.
Why? I want to live, learn, and see my great-grand children celebrate life. I want to see the complete circle, so I study, I learn, I teach, and I am humbled by women's desire to survive the most terrible acts of men . . .
