Enga govt pledges K10,000 for WHP school

THE Enga Provincial Government has made a commitment to help a primary school in the Western Highlands Province to complete the maintenance work and purchase needed materials for the school.
Enga Governor Peter Ipatas made a commitment to donate K10,000 to Aviamp Community School, which is in the Jiwaka area of the Western Highlands.
Mr Ipatas made the announcement during a political rally hosted by a candidate, at the school grounds, last week.
Mr Ipatas said provincial government had a vision to support schools in Enga Province because the future of the province was bright with the children being educated. He said he made the commitment to help fund the school because some Engans were living in that area and their children were attending the school.
“The people of Tongai Monge have to understand that this money is from the Enga Provincial Government budget and not political money,” he said.
“I made the commitment to help the school with K10,000 on behalf of the Engans who are living here because they had asked me when I arrived here to attend the political rally.”
Mr Ipatas said some of the Enga children were attending the school and their provincial government had made a commitment to play its part by supporting the school.
He said he would deliver the cheque to the school in front of the students, parents and staff members whenever the Engans and the school board were ready for the official ceremony to take place.
Aviamp Primary School was first established in 1972.
Speaking on behalf of the school, teacher Joe Bal thanked Mr Ipatas for committing K10,000 to the school.
He said this was the first time such funding was secured from the government for the people.
Mr Bal said the funds would be used for maintenance work for the school.
