Karma,

Gee, thanks alot for the link! I've been wondering what my childhood friend (Anton) had been up to. Viewing a family photo of the Lutzes brought tears to my eyes as I recalled what missionary and humanitarian work the family had contributed enormously to the poor people of Enga. The boyish look upon Anton and Paul's faces had been replaced by one of maturity and reflections of toils and perseverence to serve God and the people. And not only that, Mr. and Mrs. Lutz' contribution to medicine and education over three decades in Enga is highly commendable!! Their crusades into Porgera (especially the Hewas) and residence at Mambisanda Hospital has created a huge impact on many blessed inhabitants and those dying and in need of medical aid.

I grew up with Anton and Paul Lutz during the mid '80s as young primary school kids at the Highlands Lutheran International School stationed at Amapyaka (just outside Birip). We've seen a host of different school principles in our time from Mr. Raush and Mr. Behrens (Mrs. Lutz' father) to Mr. Anderson (Mrs. Lutz brother-in-law). I departed from my beloved friends in mid-1992 to do high school at Port Moresby International School. I never saw them since then.

The Lutz family have traversed through mosquito infested swamps to the rugged and perilous slopes of Enga. They blend in naturally with Engans as they've experienced eating kaukau and pork with ordinary villagers while wiping smudges of fat off their faces. To them, the synonymous Engan dialect is a familiar language as so the Hewa language which includes a touch of Huli vernacular. They are in every sense ENGANS, and PAPUA NEW GUINEANS at that!

I say these things not only as a close friend of the family (whose younger siblings have know their siblings), but as one of the many Engans blessed by their presence among us. Like a few pioneering missionary families, the Lutzes will remain an inspiration to other missionaries as the legacy of their kindness and love affair with Engans roam far and wide..

To the Lutzes, I say, "Kamongk Akaldi Andaik um yakam piraka niseldapyum. Aukapa andaike nambam yakama pe ekelyo!"

You shall always be in my Heart, Mind and Prayers!
