Subject: William Mattheis website contains fiction
In reply to: Sheri Osburn 's message, "Re: Henry Osborn s/o Jessie and Elizabeth?" on 21:36:39 07/12/00 Wed

Sorry to say, but the website of William Mattheis contains fiction regarding the ancestry of William Osburn (who was married to Matilda Buchanan and father of Jesse Osburn of Floyd and Johnson Cos., KY.

There is absolutely no evidence connecting Jesse Osburn's father William Osburn to the Osborns of Loudoun Co., VA or Richard Osborn of Chester Co., PA. It appears that William Mattheis got his information from the book "An Osburn Family" by Josie Walker Blakely. In her book, Josie gives Jesse Osburn's parents as William and Matilda (Buchanan) Osburn which is family tradition. She then mentions various William Osborns(various spellings) who lived concurrently with Jesse's parents and she *speculated* that perhaps one of these other William Osborns was the same as Jesse Osburn's father William.

Well, William Mattheis has turned Josie Walker's speculation into "fact", without having any evidence at all.

In your genealogy files, please do not connect the Loudoun Co., VA Osborns to William Osburn who was married to Matilda Buchanan. If you have already added them based on William Mattheis' webpage, please remove them. Please do not pass on William Mattheis' mistake.

I have a website, Osborne Origins, at http://home.att.net/~osborne_origins, with much information on Osbornes(all spellings) from all over the U.S. Another speculation in "An Osburn Family" was William Osburn who died in Laurens Co., SC in 1817 and who had a son Jesse W. and son-in-law Jesse. I have traced Jesse W. to Cherokee Co., AL and Jesse to Gwinnett Co., GA. Neither of these is the same person as Jesse Osburn of Floyd and Johnson Cos., KY.
