Subject: Choking, jerking when accelerating

I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant DE. I was wondering if there was a
recall on them. Because I have had it for under a year, and the check
engine light came on recently. It seems that the car sort of chokes whenever
I push on the accelerator, sort of rumbing. It almost wont even move &
begins to choke and jerk. I have to sometimes slam on the pedal just to
gain speed quickly an the car kinda rockets off really fast, but not
past 40 MPH. Its only getting worse, and I no one can tell me whats wrong
with it. I am afraid that it will blow up on my wife while shes driving
one day and leave her stranded. Do you have any idea what the problem
might be? I have went to several mechanics and they just dont have the
equipment to tell me what the problem is on a Mitsubishi. Thanks for
