i got this e-mail regarding our raffle....whether this is the truth our not, i think we should change it to be on the safe side?

Hi Erin:

Just thought I'd make a teeny suggestion to you -- espcecially since you're in CA, too. In our beloved state the term raffle (as far as I know still) is considered a form of gambling thus is illegal, subject to all sorts of reguation, etc. You can probably find out for sure at a legal site like NOLO.com, but based on the fundraising and nonprofits I've worked with in the past, I believe that law is still in effect (though rarely enforced -- still if they want to make a big deal they'll do it). SO just to be on the safe side, I'd suggest changing the wording a bit -- see below. Just a suggestion...

.....(The party includes dinner, live musical acts, silent auctions, prize drawings, skin market make-overs, and really cool gift bags for each guest).

However, if you do not live in California, you can still contribute to our event by buying tickets for prize-giveaways, in which all profits will go directly to RAINN!

The drawing page will be accessible this coming monday, July 23rd - it's not there quite yet. Please do sign up on our mailing list for updates though!
