Subject: Shooting at the Downer News article

NIAGARA FALLS ? A 20-year-old Niagara Falls, N.Y., man is recovering at GNGH from a gunshot wound and Niagara Regional Police have nine people in custody following a shooting and alleged kidnapping overnight Saturday.

They were two separate incidents, but police believe them to be related, according to a statement issued yesterday.

At about 9:30 p.m., in Niagara Falls, police responded to a disturbance at the Ameri-cana hotel, where they found a 29-year-old Montreal man had been the victim of a kidnapping and beating earlier in the night.

The man had been visiting Seductions Executive Lounge, a strip bar on Lundy's Lane when group of eight or nine men forced him to leave, police said. The man was beaten and forced into his car and they drove to the Ameri-cana. The victim was robbed of cash and jewelry. He managed to escape his captors and run into the hotel's Grand Ballroom, where a wedding was taking place. The suspects left the hotel in two vehicles.

Staff at the Ameri-cana would not comment yesterday about the disturbance the night before.

At 9:50 p.m., Saturday in St. Catharines, four men and one woman were arrested following a high-risk stop on Facer Street. When police searched their Chevy Blazer, they discovered two loaded handguns and a knife concealed in the vehicle. Two occupants were wearing bullet-proof body-armour.

Then at 12:39 a.m., Sunday, in Niagara Falls, police responded to a shooting at the Sundowner Gentleman's Club strip bar on Lundy's Lane. A 20-year-old man from Niagara Falls, N.Y., had suffered a gunshot wound, described by police as a "non-life-threatening wound to the buttocks."

Sundowner manager Sharlene Milo would not talk about what happened at the club early Sunday. She had heard four different versions of the events and said the media should get the official version from police.

At least five NRP officers were back at the Sundowner Sunday afternoon. They interviewed patrons and staff, following a lead in their investigation, one officer said.

The victim was taken to Greater Niagara General Hospital and admitted.

At 1:47 a.m., in Niagara Falls, police arrested four men in connection with the shooting at the Sundowner lounge. Their vehicle was pulled over on McLeod Road near the Queen Elizabeth Way.

Police in St. Catharines charged the following people with two counts each of unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a motor vehicle and possession of a restricted firearm:

? Allen Jacques, 27, of Niagara Falls

? Carla Toussant, 23, of Montreal

? Eneck Baptiste Jr., 26, of Laval, Que.

? Tony Colon, 26, of Montreal

? Edwidge Etienne, 28, of Montreal.

Jacques, Baptiste and Colon were also each charged with two counts of possessing a firearm contrary to a prohibition order. Jacques and Baptiste face an additional charge of breaching probation.

The five arrested in St. Catharines had a bail hearing on Sunday morning and were remanded in custody, police said.

Police in Niagara Falls would not release the names of the four men arrested Sunday morning, nor say if charges had been laid. They are to go to bail court today.
