Subject: I bought a couple of CD's today ...

and I wasn't looking to rip them off on the net like I easily could have.

I bought Sheryl Crow's latest CD and another from a group called Theory of a Deadman that was produced by Chad Kroeger of Nickleback (he co-wrote about half the songs also).

Anyhow, the Sheryl Crow CD was the main reason for going into the music store and Theory was an impulse buy since it was only $10.99 and the one release Nothing Could Come Between Us rocks and rolls in a nice way.

I dig Sheryl Crow. I'm man enough to admit it. She has a faboo voice and I would love to meet her in person just to say thanks for being out there. You know ? Nothing like a panting and drooling fan, just a friendly pat on the back and show of appreciation for what I, and many others, see as creative talent.

Not that I wouldn't love to do intimate things to her, but she'd prolly want to know me a little better first rather than a Banzai Naked Fest upon first sight. Heh.

Anyhow, I went to CD Now cause the jacket listed Liz Phair as performing on the recording and I couldn't see where she was listed at the end of any of the songs as having sung. I figgered that CD Now would be able to point out what she'd done. I looked at the review and my jaw dropped.

Some fucking yutz that works there was pretty much ripping apart this disc excepting two songs. Calling it shallow and over produced and saying there were only those two songs that she really put some soul into.

Can this dink claim to have done anything worthwhile with his life ? Worked hard at something creative and opened himself to all kinds of personal things to others and risked the same kind of criticisms ?

I spun the CD through once and I didn't run a single tune that I didn't like in one way or another. If that makes me shallow for enjoying the work of someone who's purportedly making a: "...jumbled mess of tailor-made advertising jingles...", then call me surfaceboy.

I bought it for a reason, I like it for that reason and I'll play it many times for that reason: She has a beautiful voice and can play her own instruments and write her own music.

It's $15.99 at Music World.

Nuff Said.

T

P.S. I still dunno where Liz Phair appears on the recording, but I know that she and Sheryl have similar voices (I have a couple CD's of Liz's as well) and I have compared them on my own.
