You are making me look tactful. That is an accomplishment.

Two points:

1) Topics limit what you can write, but then again so do the letter restrictions. The main reasons topics suck is because recyclers love them. It is possible to be creative, but you won't get as many votes from the dummies. I don't much like topics, but I know from experience that good players can blow my mind under any format.

2) You are crediting the President with too much power. The brightest men in the world with the best economic policies can institute them and still preside over a period of economic decline through factors out of their control. Morons or smart people playing politics can push bad policies and still be successful because of factors beyond their ability to foul up.
