Subject: Eating me up inside.

I am speaking as an individual alone, because writing here is, somehow, therapeutic for me. If religious discussion could offend you, please read no further, as I in no way wish to insult or hurt anyone. Thanks for your understanding.

There are so many events through the course of time that have changed world history. I am proud and fortunate to be born in the United States of America. Though not all aspects of American history are made of things for which we, the people, can be proud, these things were part of our evolution and have brought us to where we are in this place in time. And, this place is a place I am very priviledged to call home.

I am a Jew. I was brought up to believe that God is a God of love and compassion, who will judge man on how he lives his life, how he treats others around him, and by the truth that lies within his very soul. God is loving, tolerant, kind, forgiving and good. These are my interpretations of my faith combined with my experience in the very culturally diverse society in which I live.

I ache from September 11th. I ache from the daily news in the Middle East. I ache at the thought of innocent children being brought up to hate.

I don't even know how to express the shock, pain, disgust, fear, disbelief, outrage, sadness and a million other emotions I can find no words for, as I watch the world news each day. I looked at the face of an 18 year old female suicide bomber and believe with all my heart that, in her heart and soul, she believed that her actions were the ultimate way to show her love and dedication to her God. And, I freak at the thought that anyone in good faith could teach hatred and murder in lieu of tolerance and love in the name of God to innocent children.

In this whole great big wide world, there are so many cultures and religions. Is it possible that each religion could allow the other to worship God in their own way without fear of condemnation? I truly believe in one supreme being. And, I do not see why it should matter so much in what way love and commitment to God's word is expressed, as long as it so. Why do some religions feel compelled to eliminate others? We are all God's children.

Sometimes, I wish that some alien force would attack our planet, so that all earthlings would have to rely on one another, utilizing the strengths of each culture to maximize the defensive effort of the human race in defense of our planet earth. The people of America have never been more unified and appreciative of our cultural diversity than since September 11th. The very foundation of our country's existance is enough to make a large segment of the world's population, not only loathe us, but wish to exterminate us. The same people that, again, seek to exterminate the Jewish people and the state of Israel.

God bless us all and give us the strength to get through to a day of enlightenment and mutual respect.

Listen, children, to a story
That was written long ago,
'Bout a kingdom on a mountain
And the valley-folk below.

On the mountain was a treasure
Buried deep beneath the stone,
And the valley-people swore
They'd have it for their very own.

Go ahead and hate your neighbor,
Go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of Heaven,
You can justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowing
Come the judgement day,
On the bloody morning after....
One tin soldier rides away.

So the people of the valley
Sent a message up the hill,
Asking for the buried treasure,
Tons of gold for which they'd kill.

Came an answer from the kingdom,
"With our brothers we will share
All the secrets of our mountain,
All the riches buried there."

Go ahead and hate your neighbor,
Go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of Heaven,
You can justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowing
Come the judgement day,
On the bloody morning after....
One tin soldier rides away.

Now the valley cried with anger,
"Mount your horses! Draw your sword!"
And they killed the mountain-people,
So they won their just reward.

Now they stood beside the treasure,
On the mountain, dark and red.
Turned the stone and looked beneath it...
"Peace on Earth" was all it said.

Go ahead and hate your neighbor,
Go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of Heaven,
You can justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowing
Come the judgement day,
On the bloody morning after....
One tin soldier rides away.

Go ahead and hate your neighbor,
Go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of Heaven,
You can justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowing
Come the judgement day,
On the bloody morning after....
One tin soldier rides away.
