Both of those skaters can do quads, and have done them this year. I admire them for challenging themselves and giving it one more go.

While you may need a quad to win, I still think grace and performance on the other elements count for a whole lot. If Todd had not missed his triple axel and Elvis had not messed his combination spin, both would have been top five even with the botched quads. Plushenko missed his quad too, but placed higher because he did do everything else with perfection.

And even if Elvis decided not to compete in the Olympics, Canada wouldn't have been allowed to send someone else. Though Canada has a very promising field of youngsters like Jeffrey Buttle, no one else aside from Sandhu met the Olympic elgibility requirements. That's why there was no alternate entry when Sandhu pulled out. And that ends my rant on figure skating.
