Don't blame the poor fast food worker for the question; blame the managers and the corporate powers that declare such questions shall be asked.

I had a friend who worked at McD's and refused to "suggestive sell" because she thought it was really dumb. The manager got on her case and stood over her, ORDERING her to suggestive sell dessert to the next party to order in the drive-through. The next carload pulled up and ordered about 5 hot fudge sundaes. Of COURSE my smart-mouth friend followed the manager's instructions and asked "would you like a hot apple pie with that?"

The manager was not amused (but I was).
