美国心理学家史特纳斯的研究发现，臀部大小与人的智商成正比，人的臀部愈大，智力愈高。心理学家史特纳斯同时指出，埃及艳后、拿破仑、圣女贞德、美国国父华盛顿等历史伟人都是臀部特别大的“宽臀族”，美国前总统约翰肯尼迪则用特别订做的衣服来遮掩过大的臀部。
这项为期五年的研究发现，在两百七十六名成年人叁加的智力测验中，有一百五十二人臀部较大。这些“宽臀族”平均得分为一百三十七分，比臀部尺寸无甚出奇者得到的一百零六分高出三十一分。他指出，臀部宽阔的人在各方面都比一般人聪敏。
史特斯纳在将于今年冬天出版的新书“臀部愈发达，头脑愈精明”中指出，“宽臀族”可能没有身材苗条的美女性感诱人，但是若必须作选择，他宁愿选头脑而舍外貌。他表示，“宽臀族”不应为臀部宽大而自惭形秽，反而应该为这种体型感到高兴。
史特纳斯表示，不论是男是女，历史上的许多伟人声有一个共通点，就是臀部的尺寸大于常人，例如亚里士多德、亚历山大大帝、杰佛逊总统、美国前总统罗斯福的夫人伊莲娜与亨利福特。他指出，发现这些聪敏无比的杰出人物都是“宽臀族”后，推断出臀部大小与智力强弱成正比，因而得到灵感，展开这项研究。
