Subject: Martha Jane (BANDY) WILSON

Seeking further information on my gggrandmother Martha Jane (BANDY) WILSON b. 1852 in Bedford Co., VA. a dau. of Richard Hasten & Mary Elizabeth (WILLIAMS) BANDY. The Bandy family left VA. and moved to Fremont County, IA. in the late 1860's. It was in that county/state in the township of Sidney, that Martha Jane married (1869) Levi Benton WILSON. In the early 1870's they and their young daughter Olive Josephine WILSON (b. 1871) along with the family of Levi's sister (Cynthia & John Nees) moved to El Paso County, CO. The area they went to, later became the town of Monument.

According to divorce papers, on 10 July 1877 Martha Jane deserted her husband and young daughter - never to be heard from again.

Levi remarried in 1890 and I have been in contact with descendants from him and his second wife. I have also been in contact with a descendant of George Bandy, one of Martha Jane's brothers. All tell me that Martha Jane was referred to as "Aunt Jane" and that she married 2 or 3 times. One of these marriages produced a daughter name Myrtle Doyle b. ca 1893. Unknown as to whether Doyle was a middle or last name. I strongly suspect that Martha Jane had more then just one additional child after leaving her first family.

Martha Jane's parents and most of her siblings left Fremont County, IA. and by 1880 had arrived in Clay County, MO. They also lived in Lawrence County, MO.

Whether Martha Jane technically married or not it is pretty obvious that after 1877 she did not use the last name of BANDY or WILSON. This has made it virtually impossible to locate her. I am hoping that a descendant out there somewhere will recognize something in this query which might match what they know about their ancestress and contact me.

No email inquiry to me is considered a waste so please contact me if you think we may have a connection.
