Subject: trying to trace a william john gilmour hamilton and a john joseph hamilton

I am trying to trace a William John Gilmour Hamilton and John Joseph Hamilton.William is my great great grandfather on my father's side. From what I have he was born around the Lanark area about 1839 or so. He came to Canada but I don't have any information on when. He married twice when he came here. First to a Margaret Watt or Watts then to a Mary Manning. John from what I have been told may have been born in Scotland and then went to Northern Ireland.He is my great grandfather on my mom's side. John married a Cecilia McCool. They had at least 10 children. My grandfather Patrick being the oldest born in 1900. His brother John lived on the farm outside donegal until his death in 1983. I also had an uncle named Phillip who I am told lived in Hamilton, Scotland. I know that the people of Scotland and Ireland do not like to give out information on people who live there but I am desperate to find information on my family. My mother is getting up in years and I would love to be able to find out anything about the families before something happens to her. If anyone can help me find out anything about them I would be grateful.
