Subject: from Gautreau to Guthro

Trying to find any and all roots to "Guthro". Original Acadian spelling beleived to have been "Gautreau" as in Francois Gautreau who arrived in Acadia (Nova Scotia), from France, in the early 1600's.
This line I have traced from Acadia (Grand-Pre) to New Brunswick, then to Miquelon, then I loose them, possibly to a name spelling change (170 choices) or very frequent moves.
I have conflicting information that says some might have went back to New Brunswick or Prince Edward Island or both. All about the late 1700's to the very early 1800's.
I believe this to be my family line because of the stories the old people tell of the 3 or 4 brothers that came from Miquelon to Nova Scotia and settled down and raised thier families.

Now down to fact:
A 1901 Census (Ward One New Glasgow, Pictou Co. NS.) has my Great Great Grandfather as;

JOHN GUTHREW b.1863 in rural NS.
his wife Margret (King ?) b.1860 in rural NS.

cildren of John & Margret:

William (son) b.1879 in rural Nova Scotia
Levi (son) b. 1880 in rural Prince Edward Island
Annie L. (daughter) b. 1883 urban Nova Scotia
Maggie (daughter) b. 1884 in urban New Brunswick
Martha (daughter) b. 1887 in urban Nova Scotia
Eisbell (daughter) b. 1890 in urban Nova Scotia
PETER (son) b. 1891 in urban Nova Scotia (Amhurst,Cumberland County)
John J. (son) b. 1897 urban Nova Scotia

The above Peter is my Great Grandfather,
Peter Alexander Guthro b.1891-d.1963(New Glasgow, NS.)
...married Oct., 1910 in Amhurst NS. to Katie Townsley b.1890-d.1948 (New Glasgow, NS.)
thier children:

Elsie
Aggie
Margret (Ham Avery)
Totsie (Joe O'Donnell)
Dorthy (George MacDonald)
Peggy (John Burns)
Mary (Ivan MacKeen)
Martha (Robert Thompson)
Kenneth (Helen Avery)
Frank
John James (died WW1)
George Henry (died WW1)
PETER ALEXANDER (Mary Thompson)

The above Peter above is my Grandfather:

Peter Alexander Guthro b.Feb. 1916-d. Apr. 1996 New Glasgow
...married Feb. 1936 New Glasgow NS to Mary Bertha Putman Thompson b. 1916-d. 1994 New Glasgow NS

thier children:

PETER T (Laverne Reid)
Kenneth R. (Sandra ?)
Robert J.
Elsie (Simon Chapman)
John J. (Barb ?)
Martha (Charles Feit)
Mable (Alex Carrigan)
Donna (Brent Cameron)

The above Peter is my Father,
Peter Thomas Guthro.
(enough about them)

What I really would like to find is solid proof on John and Margret and anything from them back. I figure possibly 4-6 generations missing and then make the connection to Francois crew.
Appreciate any help on names, dates or even how or where to continue my search.
