Subject: McKEE, Joseph, Jane et al

I am trying to locate my great grandfather and his family. His name was Joseph A. McKee. He was born somewhere in Ireland in 1860. His mother's name was Jane. He had a brother named William, born in 1858, sisters named Theresa, born 1865, Alice born 1868 (all in Ireland), Catherine born in NYC 1872, and Ann born NYC 1874.

Jane was listed in the 1880 census as being a widow and she was 47 yrs. old that year. Joseph was listed as having come over in 1880 (so apparently they left him behind in Ireland when they came to America). He was working as a switchman for the Long Island Rail Road that year, and William was a train conductor. The family was Roman Catholic.

If they followed the hierarchy pattern of naming their sons, then Joseph's paternal grandfather "may" have been named William, and his maternal grandfather named Joseph.

He married Eliza Taggert/Taggart, but the date was a bit conflicting. According to the 1900 census, she did not come to America until 1882, yet by 1900 they had been married 19 years. He was listed in the 1880 census as being single. They had:
John Francis
Joseph A.
James
William
Hugh
Anna
Lilly/Lillian
Mary.

If HE followed the naming pattern, then HIS father may have been named John Francis, and Eliza's father could have been named Joseph A (although I seriously doubt that last one).

If anyone has any information at all about this family, where they came from in Ireland etc., please, contact me at ouizee47@hotmail.com
Thanks
