As I sit here looking at my pen,
I think of what I have accomplished.
Nothing is my answer to this hand that holds it;
Compared to you brave angels, I've never flown.
I've bled on battlefields that only introduced death,
While you soared to a place that truly promises peace.
Staring upon an enemy you knew was there and couldn't see;
It is true courage to lay one's life down without weapons.
Journeying upwards to fight with gentle notions for us all,
Turning swords into gleaming lights of hope for everyone.
Oh how this earth should honour your valiant intentions,
To not continue them would be the greatest tragedy.
When you see my Rebecca please hug her for me,
Tell her I can't wait to be embraced by all of you.
Though your flight was faster I hope to get there to,
Gliding to a heaven I pray will accept this soldier.
