I was just surfing and found this site, been reading through all the poems....some good stuff. Mind if I submit one?
"A Fond Adieu"
A wearisome traveler-
stopped to rest-
his dusty, sandal clad feet.
His throat-
parched and dry-
as the cotton fields he passed 'long the way.
Dilapidated shacks-
set back from the road-
once occupied by impoverished slaves-
now stand abandoned-
as ghostly reminders-
of a past best forgotten.
It was one of those hot Georgian days-
so hot you could see the heat rise from the ground-
in waves of oppression-
made worse by thick, moisture laden air-
that enveloped him like a blanket.
Perspiration dripped from his brow-
no breeze to cool his dry, thirsty skin-
too tired now to continue on-
he laid on the grass under the trees-
and quickly fell right to sleep.
The deep sleep of babies and kings.
He awoke in the morning-
to a down pouring rain-
feeling as if he were blessed.
Newly incarnated-
by a welcomed and much needed rest.
He gathered his water-logged bags-
he was only passing through.
So for now-
he bids this place-
a very fond adieu.
