The day strolled in, with the same rising sun,
Brushing teeth, kissing my wife, patting the dog,
Shooting out the door, to my job, so filled with fun,
Mindless of my world's breakdown, a rupturing cog!
Soon after docking in my old, familiar chair,
My shakey boss, whose face lacked usual glee,
Eyes, now cast down, sad words leaving their lair.
Propelled to his office, I learned I was "set free".
Free from my job? My worth? MY PAY?!!
A loosened spirit, claimed now by no one,
Cleaning my desk, numbly enduring that day.
The king of lost souls, my worth a setting sun.
Days that followed were strangely unreal,
A suitor without a hint of a date,
"I'm just who you need!", I tirelessly appealed,
Ending each day, tearfully opening the gate.
Resumes flew like leaves in the wind,
Notes in a bottle, sporting lyrics so fine,
No takers! So sorry! Rejections ending in kind,
All my best efforts just left me behind.
Then one broken night I fell to my knees,
Bending the ear of a Friend somehow forgotten,
"Please, oh Lord, this burden do ease,
I know I've run past You, and feel so rotten!
Passing of years make that time somewhat dim,
But I say, in truth, the next morning so bright,
Following my weary calling to Him,
Phones began singing, invitations in sight!
This tale, sounding strained to those who still wait,
Chasing blind alleys and wondering "Why?",
But for me, my answer came none too late,
And more tightly hold His hand I will try.
