Where have I been and where am I going?
Not even the good Lord knows.
Sitting at home in total darkness
or living with the traveling shows.

I miss the life that passed me by
for it was short and sweet.
Twenty-two years of non-regret...
A life you cannot beat.

I ran away with the carnival
three days after high school graduation
and ran away with a traveling pipe line-
Yet had to return shortly after exploration.

I've used my smarts and taught music lessons
only to quit after a wreck with a semi.
I let my frustration run away with me
as I wished for another body that wasn't mine.

Have you dreamt about running away
and seeing where the road less traveled takes ya?
I've sat on its shoulder, and ran in its fast lane
and I'll say, it will batter and break ya.

I've lived a life of a comic book,
pain, laughter, heartache and tears.
I smile while remembering even the bad
that I've lived through these past years.

Now, here it is, I'm all grown up
after several harsh turns in my journey.
But what doesn't make me stronger in life
is going to have to carry me out on a gurney.
