Problem der Lichtverschmutzung [Bearbeiten]

Die heute meist übertrieben helle Industrie- und Straßenbeleuchtung sowie Außenbeleuchtung von Gebäuden bringt - neben einer deutlichen Aufhellung der Atmosphäre ("Lichtverschmutzung") nicht nur Probleme für die Astronomie, sondern auch für Menschen (Schlafrhythmus etc.) und nachtaktive Insekten, Vögel, Fledermäuse, nachtaktive Amphibien usw. Unter den Insekten sind v.a. die Nachtfalter betroffen, deren Augen stark auf die UV-Strahlung von Hochdrucklampen reagieren. Die Gebäude- und Straßenlampen werden stundenlang umflogen, bis die Tiere ermattet oder vor Hunger sterben. Auf diese Art kommt es allein in Deutschland jährlich zu etwa 200 Milliarden Insektenleichen, was auch gravierende Folgen für die Nahrungskette anderer Tierarten hat. [3]

Neuere Entwicklungen bei Quecksilbermittel- und Quecksilberhochdrucklampen haben zwar geringere UV-Anteile im Licht, was aber für die Lösung des Umweltproblems noch nicht ausreicht.
