Coco
Coco is a border collie and possibly German Shepherd with some other breeds thrown in to the mix, too. Coco was born in October 2001 and his original owners neglected him by keeping him in a crate for 14 hours a day without food or water. Coco is a very energetic and playful dog who loves children (older children are best as he is an exuberant dog who might be too much for little ones) and likes to be around people!! He still chews on things and will need some work in that area. He would do best with a family with a backyard or a ranch where he can get plenty of exercise, but most of all he needs a home where someone has a lot of time to spend with him. Coco loves to go for car rides and his very good in the car!! He has had his shots, has been neutered and also is micro-chipped. He is heartworm negative and on preventative.
ADOPTED

Scout
Scout is a very sweet dog. He is very smart. He loves people and is wonderful with our two other dogs. He has never been around cats. He likes to chase squirrels. Scout is very good with our nine year old daughter, and we think he does well with kids this age or older. He loves attention. He spends a lot of time in the backyard with our other dogs, he loves to go for walks and to the park. He loves to be in the house. He likes to be talked to, petted, kissed and complimented! He is housebroken, has never had an accident. He uses a pet door. He is afraid of thunderstorms. He is a sweet, precious dog who needs a home with love.

Toby
Two days after Christmas a neighbor found two young red/white Border Collies at a supermarket parking lot in Kerrville, TX. They had followed a young biker from a convenience store several miles away, and the supermarket manager was calling animal control to pick them up. My neighbor, who was leaving the next day for California, knew our animal control never waits the legal three days before disposing of unclaimed critters and called me to ask if we could care for them until the following Monday, when the no-kill humane society opened. We agreed, and the two boys came to our house.
We were in the process of moving from Grapevine to Fredericksburg and weren't in the position of caring long-term for the two dogs. So the following Monday we loaded them in our truck and went to the above-mentioned no-kill shelter. They refused to take BCs. I then called the Hill Country SPCA in Fredericksburg and took them in the next day for evaluation. The manager was very taken by both pups, took their "vital statistics" and put them on a waiting list for placement.
A couple of days later we took them to the vet to be wormed and vaccinated. We had figured the younger to be around 4 mos. old, and the older to be least 1-2 years of age because of his quiet nature. We were about right for the little guy but were surprised to learn the older dog was only 7-8 mos. of age. Later that day we got a call from a gentleman in Fredericksburg who was looking for a BC and had gotten our name from HCSPCA. He came out to look at the boys, fell in love with the older dog (I had, too, by that time) and - after much quizzing from us to make sure he was a good match - he took "Red" home.
We're permanently settled in Fredericksburg now. The younger dog, Toby, lives with us, our other two dogs and three cats. He's gained weight and filled out with proper food and lots of affection. He's neutered, up-to-date on all shots, housebroken and crate-trained. He loves our standard poodle and tries to love our cranky beagle-basset-dachshund mix. But he CRAVES work, and he needs a job. Right now his work is herding our three cats, much to their extreme annoyance. I¡¦m trying to curb his enthusiasm for the cats but don¡¦t want to hinder his instinctive herding behavior. In short, he needs a home with someone who's familiar with the breed and will lovingly help him find his purpose. He¡¦s still on the waiting list in Fredericksburg, but that means a life in a shelter situation until someone adopts him. I don¡¦t want that for Toby. I¡¦m hoping ¡V with help from BC Rescue and other like-minded organizations, that the right person or family for Toby can be found soon.

Ellie
Ellie is a 2 year old border collie/aussie mix that weighs 37 pounds. She is very intelligent, independent, cute and very sweet. She has been spayed and is current on all her shots and is on heartworm preventative.
Ellie has been to some training but with the right person and dedication could learn and excel with just about anything. So far she knows how to sit, stay and down. Ellie loves to be outside most of the time. She is very sociable and gets along with all other dogs. She loves to go to the dog park and play. I have never seen her have a problem with another dog unless that dog had a problem with her first. Then she will stick up for herself. Ellie is the typical border collie and has lots of energy. She loves to chase squirrels! She is a very good hunter. I would not recommend a house with cats or smaller animals because of this. She gets really excited when she sees people at first but then she calms down after a minute. This would stop if she was exposed to people more often. Ellie has all the collie/shepherd instincts. She loves to make her own obstacle courses and will try to herd you in the backyard. Ellie loves fetching the ball and playing with squeaky toys.
She is totally house trained but I do not leave her in the house unsupervised because she gets bored and starts finding her own things to do. She has grown up being crate trained so she stays in her crate when I am gone, at night or in bad weather. Ellie would do best with a family with a large yard or lots of land. But she would be fine anywhere as long as she got lots of attention and had a job to do!
Guidelines:
- A stable home is a must!
- Only one dog per person.
- The dog must go through training in order to fulfill their real potential.
- They are for free as long as I see fit a good home.
- Have fun ogling at these magnificent creatures! |
