I was so excited to see your notes in the forum... I’m a direct descendant of Thomas CALTON & Sarah WEBSTER. My mother’s Maden name is WEBSTER. This is the first information I’ve found about Sarah’s life after arriving in South Africa in 1820.
I have a big looming question that I can’t find an answer to.....
Why was their son (my ancestor) given the name ..... John Calton WEBSTER?
Why wasn’t his surname CALTON like his natural father?
