Subject: William Collins of Melbourne

I am researching the family of Frederick Fountain (1849-1922). He was the second son of Thomas Abbott Fountain, a tailor and draper in the county town of Hertford in England.

Frederick was married on 24th June 1875, according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Roman Catholic Church, at the St Aloyius Chapel in the district of Pancras in London. His bride was Ellen Mary Collins. All I know about her origins is that she was born in 1851 in Melbourne, Victoria and that she was the youngest daughter of William Collins of Melbourne. William's rank is described on the marriage certificate as "Gentleman". He had apparently died by 1875 since, according to the notice of the marriage in the local paper, he was described as the "late" William Collins, but I do not know the actual date of his death.

According to the marriage certificate, Frederick Fountain's profession was "Mariner". It would appear, therefore, that at some stage he sailed to Australia where he met Ellen Collins and that they then returned to England where they were married in 1875.

If anyone can supply me with any details about this William Collins and his family, I would be extremely grateful.
