Subject: BIRCH FAMILY IN NSW

I am looking for BIRCH families descended from THOMAS BIRCH, who emigrated to Australia in the 1890's from Staffordshire, England. Thomas was born in Macclesfield, Cheshire in 1865 and was the son of Joseph Birch and Sarah Ann Kent. Joseph was born in Ipstones, Staffordshire, part of a large BIRCH family in North Staffordshire going back to the 1600's.

Thomas married Maud Mary BRYANT in 1894 in Newtown and died in Marrickville in 1941. I have records of three children: 1. Stanley Cyril Edward, born 1896 in Newtown. He married Elsie L White in 1932 in Marrickville and he died there in 1954.2. Rupert Walter Thomas, born 1900 in Newtown; he died in 1929 in Marrickville. Rupert married Rosanna C Young in 1932 in Marrickville. 3. Margaret Ethel, born 1906 in Newtown. She married (1) Joseph Divola in 1943 in Marrickville and (2) Robert Hugh Sharpe in Burwood.

Thomas was known in Australia as Thomas Edward Rupert BIRCH, but he was Baptised as Thomas, having adopted the two extra names from a close relative in Staffordshire.

Any information about possible relatives, or any hints as to how to track descendants through the Australian genealolgy system would be appreciated. I am a direct blood relative of the above and have a detailed tree of the BIRCH family from the area which I would be happy to share.

With thanks,

Keith Thompson.
