Take the politics out of religion and I believe it would be deeply spiritual. You see I think that is the main difference, being brought up spiritually YOU and YOU alone are taught that YOU are responsible for your own personal actions etc, and that YOU are in control of your own life and destiny (or destination for a better word) a religious upbringing teaches you that it is God who pulls the strings to your life. This one concept TAKES AWAY so much ... firstly to act in a responsible way and know that your actions have a consequence be it good or bad ... not God's actions to you or against you. Also it takes away your confidence to believe in your own actions and decisions ... in other words you are stripped of your individuality! You are taught with FEAR, rather than experience, and are fearful of making mistakes ... which lets face it folks is a common part of life! How else do we learn?? Do we punish a child for tumbling over when it first starts to learn to walk?? Looking in a book of rules and regulations, which are often not understood by the majority, (as deep and fascinating it is) does NOT help you connect with your Creator or even with yourself!
