Stephanie:

It makes no sense to a lot of people, including many "whites"! I was raised to be a good christian but never an intolerant one. My mother taught me to respect the beliefs of others.

I have always felt a pull toward a differant path and as the years have progressed that pull has increased to the point that I can't pretend I don't hear it anymore! Investigating a new road is difficult for many reasons...First you have to deal with the decision of how much you will reveal to family and friends who will not approve or understand. Then you face the difficult road of finding someone who will share their knowledge and assist you in understanding the path you are being led toward. Finally, the most difficult task is finding a way to combine the truth of what you were taught as a child with the truth that God or the Creator is leading many of us toward as adults.

We must all remember that religion is not the same as having faith or believing in the Creator. Religion is the means by which someone chooses to practice that belief! Most people in the worlds religions wouldn't hurt anyone...It is the fundamentalist who rise to power and corrupt the teaching of the very beliefs they claim to practice.

Here is an interesting thought to ponder...Have any of you read the "Da Vinci Code"? The book is fiction but the hidden gospels it is based upon are real! You can buy them at the book store and it is my understanding that they date to and were found with the dead sea scrolls. Accourding to my sister who has been researching and reading them, they paint Christ and the early Christian church in a slightly differant light!

The Gospel of Thomas is written in the first person and believed to be the closest thing to Christ words in existance. In this text, Christ is portrayed to be much more concerned with and connected to nature...saying that if one lifts a rock he is there. After reading it my sister said it complimented the Bible but at the same time it left her with an image of Christ being much more of a naturalist and teaching that God is all around us, existing in everything. We can find him everywhere...not just in a building.

Some might ask that why would anyone try to hid certain gospels from the early Christians? If we assume that these are true gospels and not a hoax, than the answer is very simple! One of the hidden gospels was of Mary Magnolian, the one that was supposed to have been a prostitute. The Catholic church voted what to include in the bible and of course they were not much for womens rights in those days. Can you imagine having a woman disiple? They wanted to keep women second class citizens, not give them the idea that they were equal in Gods eyes. They also wanted to collect tithings and taxes. Making people believe that one must go to church in order to worship gave them a convient way to keep an eye on and control the masses while getting their money. If people can worship anywhere that would have been much harder to control. Keep in mind that it can be of help to gather togather for fellowship with those who believe the same things you practice but it is not a requirement of faith to do so!

We all finally have the right to practice freely our beliefs but in the process of doing so we must learn to remember the lessons of the past while at the same time letting go of old injuries done in the name of intolorance. If we hold on to our anger at the injuries done to us than we stop growing and start building walls separating us from others! This leads us to repeat the misteaks of history instead of moving forward and learning to be more like our Creator. Remember, he is a loving parent and when he forgives, he never hold a grudge! I know for a fact that is a lot easier said than done! Hopefully someday I will no longer struggle with being able to selflessly do just that.

Peace and blessings...Cat
