Hi, I am new here and just finished reading some of the messages posted here. Oh, by the way I am Choctaw from the Mississippi Band. After reading it I know that all of you are right but We as natives should have stood up a long time ago. The problem we have in standing up together is because even today there are naytives among us who still won't agree with each other. And we have a tendency to talk but there is almost always no action to it. Let me just give you an example of what we should have done. For many years now one of the suffering people of this country which is the black people have stood up and organized them selves and have accomplished many things. Even unto death they stood for their beliefs which us natives don't do. Many of our warriors are in prison or have bad health beccause of drinking. The elders are at home but cannot move because basically they are old. And the young are merely just kids who don't understand where we stand today. The ones who should be understanding have all fell short of becoming what we should have become but you are right in saying that because of the mistreatment of the strangers the native mistrust of them is so deep that it is hard for them to get up to do anything. Don't think I'm in disagreement with what you say, I totally agree with you all. And with some misunderstanding some native s would and probably will think I'm putting them down. I am not. I'm just saying that if they can realize where they are at right now, and sober up they can try to begin to stand up. And again, don't getme wrong. there are some brothers and sisters lke myself who are standing up but I know we are but a few. It's why it's so difficult even for us to make any progress. Yes, we do have to stand together.
