Subject: Release Ceremony

I am doing a research paper on Native American "Release" ceremonies. My daughter lives in Colorado and tells me of the release ceremony where you gather stones from the river and write your burdens on them.. then, carrying them in a backpack or sack,hike to a higher place and throw the stones off symbolizing the release of your burdens. Do you have any further information about this ceremony? I can't find anything about it on the internet. Thank you very much.
